SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling es una empresa de lucha libre en Tailandia. La empresa cumplirá 12 años dentro de poco y han preparado una cartelera especial para su próximo show de aniversario: CHAOPHRAYA VOYAGE el 28 de septiembre.
Antes de que se realice este nuevo evento en Tailandia, Pep S. Caro tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a Matcha. La primera y vigente SETUP All Asia Women’s Champion respondió varias de las preguntas de Pep. Se discutieron varios temas: porqué decidió convertirse en luchadora, representar a SETUP como campeona, luchas contra rivales de TJPW, su participación en el evento especial de Stardom en Tailandia, hobbies, vida diaria, dream match, objetivos y mucho más.
Queremos destacar que esta fue la primera entrevista de Matcha para un medio informativo en español.

Entrevista con (SETUP): Lo profesional y lo personal (Spanish & English)
Pep: ¿Cuándo decidiste convertirte en luchadora profesional?
Matcha: He sido una gran fanática de la lucha libre profesional desde que tenía alrededor de 14 años. Cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria, Emi Sakura vino a Bangkok y abrió la prueba para una empresa de lucha libre femenina. Pumi me preguntó si estaba interesada en hacer la prueba y entonces comenzó mi historia.
Pep: ¿Tienes alguna luchadora que consideres tu modelo a seguir?
Matcha: No veía mucho a los ídolos de la lucha libre antigua, así que tengo luchadoras modernas como modelo a seguir. Tengo a AJ Lee como mi luchadora favorita porque tenemos algo en común, somos niñas pequeñas que estamos tratando de luchar en el gran mundo de la lucha libre.
Pep: ¿Podrías contarnos sobre tu experiencia en la escena de la lucha libre tailandesa?
Matcha: Empezamos por debajo de cero. Ya sabes, tenemos el Muay Thai como deporte nacional. A los tailandeses les encanta ver deportes de lucha, por lo que no entienden cómo funciona la lucha libre profesional. Siempre nos dicen cosas como “¿Es lucha libre profesional real? ¿Duele?” ¡Ustedes son falsos! Todo esto es una actuación. Incluso si tratamos de explicar qué es la lucha libre profesional, dirán: “Entonces… ¿es real o falso? ¿Duele o no?” y nunca termina.
Empezamos Gatoh Move hace 11 años, nunca habíamos tenido una empresa de lucha libre profesional antes, así que todo es nuevo para nosotros. Cómo entrenar con gente tailandesa, cómo entender la cultura de la lucha libre, cómo hacer un evento de lucha libre, cómo comunicarnos con los fans tailandeses, cómo administrar el dinero en este negocio. Incluso cómo comunicarnos con el gobierno sobre lo que estamos haciendo. Todo es nuevo para nosotros y para los tailandeses.
Tenemos buenos y malos momentos. Solíamos hacer un evento sin ring de lucha libre, solo un tatami y solo 5 fanáticos. Hasta ahora podemos hacer eventos de lucha libre en el pabellón que tienen más de 500 fanáticos, así que creo que realmente hemos llegado muy lejos.
Pep: Actualmente eres la primera campeona de SETUP All Asia Women’s Championship, ¿podrías decirnos qué significa para ti representar a la empresa como campeona? ¿Podrías contarnos brevemente cómo te sientes después de tus primeras defensas de título?
Matcha: Mi respuesta debería ser que estoy muy orgullosa de representarlas como campeona. Pero en serio, me siento un poco vacía porque la verdad es que soy la única luchadora tailandesa en ese momento, así que eso significa que la campeona debo ser yo. Ahora tenemos a Jeney, pero todavía es una novata. He sido la única luchadora mujer en la empresa durante más de 10 años y todavía estoy esperando a una chica nueva que realmente pueda pelear conmigo.
Para las primeras defensas de título, me gustaría demostrar que el peso del campeón no es el cinturón sino el combate. La gente espera mucho del combate por el campeonato. Eso significa que necesito mejorar mi desempeño y elevar el peso del campeonato.
Pep: SETUP es parte de la Federación de Lucha Libre de Asia y el Pacífico. Otro miembro es Stardom, y te vimos competir en los espectáculos de Bushiroad Expo Asia 2023 en Bangkok. ¿Podrías contarnos sobre esta experiencia? ¿Aún estás en contacto con alguno de los luchadores de Stardom que participaron en el show?
Matcha: Ese fue el evento más estresante de mi vida. Porque la última vez que las compañías de lucha japonesa trabajaron en Tailandia fue justamente NJPW hace unos 7 u 8 años. Ese evento no fue un éxito, por lo que nunca volvieron. Eso significa que si nos equivocamos en este evento, tal vez Stardom nunca vuelva como lo hizo NJPW. Entonces, necesitamos preparar todo lo que haga que este evento sea un éxito. No debemos cometer errores o hacerlos infelices. Necesito estar atenta a cada acción y a mi combate, por lo que eso me puso nerviosa y me hizo entrar en pánico. Pero después de que el evento terminó y supe que el evento fue bueno, fue un final muy feliz.
Normalmente no hablo mucho con luchadores japoneses porque tenemos barreras lingüísticas. No pueden hablar tailandés y no son buenos en inglés y yo no puedo hablar japonés y tampoco soy buena en inglés. Entonces, nuestra interacción es seguirnos mutuamente en IG y presionar me gusta en las fotos.
Pep: En el primer show del año de SETUP, te enfrentaste a Yuki Kamifuku de TJPW, una luchadora que actualmente posee dos campeonatos en Asia. ¿Cómo fue esta experiencia para ti? ¿Te gustaría enfrentarte a Kamifuku en un combate en el que sus campeonatos estén en juego?
Matcha: Ella es una gran luchadora y muy agradable. No me había enfrentado a una luchadora japonesa en mucho tiempo, y tuvimos un gran combate juntas. He aprendido mucho de su experiencia. Y sé que tiene 2 títulos de países del SEA (Sudeste Asiático), así que quiero pelear con ella y quitarle todos los títulos para poder ser la verdadera reina del SEA.
Pep: En el show CHAOPHRAYA VOYAGE de SETUP el 28 de septiembre, defenderás el Campeonato Femenino de Asia contra otras dos luchadoras de TJPW: Raku y Pom Harajuku. ¿Cómo ha sido tu proceso de preparación para este combate? ¿Cuáles son tus expectativas para el combate?
Matcha: En serio, no me he preparado mucho. No soy descuidada ni nada, pero la última vez que peleé con su mejor luchadora, Mizuki, ella no pudo vencerme. Así que, las chicas esta vez tampoco pueden.
Pep: Queremos saber un poco más sobre ti fuera del ring, ¿podrías contarnos sobre tus pasatiempos?
Matcha: Hago dibujos de fanart bajo el pseudonimo Tapla y diseño mucha indumentaria de luchadores como Will Ospreay para All In, Shun Skywalker y Diamante de DRAGON GATE y muchos otros.
Pep: Además, ¿podrías decirnos cómo es un día normal en tu vida?
Matcha: Despertarme, comer, ir a trabajar, volver a casa, ir al gimnasio, volver a casa, hacer fanart, dormir.
Todos los días serán iguales, pero el sábado voy al dojo para luchar.
Pep: Ya sea por turismo o para competir, ¿hay algún país que aún no hayas visitado y que te gustaría ver?
Matcha: Estados Unidos.
Pep: ¿Tienes un oponente soñado al que te gustaría enfrentar? No importa si está bajo contrato con una empresa. También puedes comentar si te gustaría agregar alguna estipulación al combate.
Matcha: Mis luchadores favoritos están todos retirados jajaja. Pero quiero enfrentarme a mis favoritos actuales como Mercedes Moné, Giulia, Syuri, AZM. No me gustan las reglas especiales, así que un combate normal está bien.
Pep: ¿Cuáles son tus objetivos para 2025?
Matcha: Luchar en Japón y convertirme en luchadora a tiempo completo en Japón.
Pep: ¿Tienes algún mensaje para tus fans?
Matcha: No publico mucho en mi cuenta de lucha libre, así que lo siento mucho por eso. Pero por favor, apóyenme a mí y a la lucha libre tailandesa. Estamos creciendo en cada evento y tratando de hacer que la escena de la lucha libre tailandesa sea más grande, ¡así que necesitamos todo el apoyo!

Pep: When did you decide to become a professional wrestler?
Matcha: I’ve been a big fan of Pro wrestling since I was around 14. When I was in high school, Emi Sakura came to Bangkok and opened the try out for a women wrestling company. Pumi asked me If I was interested in trying out, then my story began.
Pep: Do you have any wrestlers that you consider your role models?
Matcha: I didn’t watch old wrestling idols much so I have modern wrestlers as role model. I have AJ Lee as my favorite women wrestler because we have something in common, we are small girls who are trying to fight in the big wrestling world.
Pep: Could you tell us about your experience in the Thai wrestling scene?
Matcha: We start below zero. You know, we have Muay Thai as National sport. Thai people love to watch fighting sports, so they are not understanding how Pro-wrestling works. We always get the sentence like ‘It’s pro wrestling real? Does it hurt? You guys are fake! This is all acting’ even if we try to explain what pro-wrestling is, they will be like ‘so … Is it real or fake, does it hurt or not?’ and it never ends.
We started Gatoh Move 11 years ago, we never had a pro wrestling company before so everything is new for us. How to train with Thai people, how to understand wrestling culture, how to make one wrestling event, how to communicate with Thai fans, how to manage money in this business. Even how to communicate with the government about what we are doing. Everything is new for us and Thai people.
We have good times and bad times. We used to make an event with no wrestling ring, only a mat and only 5 fans. Till now that we can do wrestling events in the hall that have 500+ fans so I think we really come so far.
Pep: You are currently the first SETUP All Asia Women’s Championship, could you tell us what it means to you to represent the company as Champion? Could you briefly tell us about your feelings after your first title defenses?
Matcha: My answer should be like I’m really proud of it, to be representing them as champion. But seriously, I feel a bit empty because the truth is I’m the only Thai women wrestler in that time so that means the champion must be me. We have Jeney now but she is still only a rookie. I’ve been the only women wrestler in the company for 10+ years and I’m still waiting for some new girl who can really fight me.
For the first title defenses. I will like to show that the weight of the champion is not from the belt but from the match. People expect a lot from the championship match. That means I need to improve my performance and elevate the weight of the championship up.
Pep: SETUP is part of the Asia-Pacific Federation of Wrestling. Another member is Stardom, and we saw you compete at the Bushiroad Expo Asia 2023 shows in Bangkok. Could you tell us about this experience? Are you still in contact with any of the Stardom wrestlers who participated in the show?
Matcha: That was the most stressful event in my life. Because the last time that Japanese wrestling companies worked in Thailand was NJPW around 7-8 years ago. That event wasn’t a success, so they never came back. That mean if we fucked up in this event, maybe Stardom will never come back again like NJPW did. So, we need to prepare everything that makes this event successful. Must make no mistake or make them unhappy. I need to beware of every action and my match so that made me nervous and panic. But after the event was done and knew that the event was good, i was a very happy ending
Normally I didn’t talk with Japanese wrestlers a lot because we have language barriers. They cannot talk Thai and are not good at English and I cannot talk Japanese and not good at English either. So, our reaction is to follow each other on IG and press like in the photos.
Pep: At SETUP’s first show of the year, you faced TJPW’s Yuki Kamifuku, a wrestler who currently holds two Championships in Asia. How was this experience for you? Would you like to face Kamifuku in a match with her Championships on the line?
Matcha: She’s a great wrestler and really nice. I haven’t faced a Japanese women wrestler for a long time, and we had a great match together. I’ve learned a lot from her experience. And I know that she has 2 title belts from SEA (South East Asia) countries so I want to fight her and take all the belts from her so I can be the real queen of SEA.
Pep: At SETUP’s CHAOPHRAYA VOYAGE show on September 28, you will be defending the All Asia Women’s Championship against two other TJPW wrestlers: Raku and Pom Harajuku. How has your preparation process been for this match? What are your expectations for the match?
Matcha: Seriously, I have not prepared myself much. I’m not careless or anything but the last time I fought their top wrestler, Mizuki, she couldn’t beat me. So, the girls this time cannot either.
Pep: We want to know a little more about you outside the ring, could you tell us about your hobbies?
Matcha: I do the fanart drawing as Tapla and design a lot of wrestler’s gear like Will Ospreay for All In, Shun Skywalker and Diamante from DRAGON GATE and many others.
Pep: Also, could you tell us what a normal day in your life is like?
Matcha: Wake up, Eat, go to work, come back home, Go to Gym, come back home, Doing fanart, Sleep.
Every day will be the same, but Saturday I will go to the dojo for wrestling.
Pep: Whether for tourism or to compete, is there a country you haven’t visited yet that you would like to see?
Matcha: USA.
Pep: Do you have a dream opponent that you would like to face? It doesn’t matter if they are under contract with a company. You could also comment if you would like to add any stipulations to the match.
Matcha: My most favorite wrestlers are all retired lol. But I want to face my current favorites like Mercedes Moné, Giulia, Syuri, AZM. I don’t like special rules so just a normal match is ok.
Pep: What are your goals for 2025?
Matcha: Wrestling in Japan and becoming a full time wrestler in Japan.
Pep: Do you have any message for your fans?
Matcha: I’m not posting much in my wrestling account so I’m really sorry for that. but please support me and Thai wrestling. We are growing up in every event and trying to make the Thai wrestling scene bigger, so we need all the support!
