New Japan Pro Wrestling celebrará este fin de semana Destruction in Kobe, su nuevo evento especial que incluíra varios combates titulares. Uno de los combates es DOUKI (c) vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru por el IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Antes de que se realice este, Pep S. Caro tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a DOUKI. El actual Campeón Junior de NJPW respondió varias de las preguntas de Pep. Los temas fueron sobre su tiempo en México, vencer a Hiromu Takahashi y a El Desperado este año, un posible combate con Mistico, su próxima defensa contra Yoshinobu Kanemaru, su vínculo con Ninja Mack, dream match, tiempo libre, objetivos y más.

Entrevista con DOUKI (NJPW): Lo profesional y lo personal (Spanish & English)
Pep: En julio celebraste tu 13° aniversario como luchador profesional. ¿Tienes algún momento de tu carrera que te gustaría destacar como tu favorito?
DOUKI: Los recuerdos más felices que tengo en la lucha libre hasta ahora son los amigos con los que fui bendecido en México. ¡Los recuerdos más duros son demasiados para contarlos!
Pep: Este año pudiste lograr dos cosas que no habías podido hacer antes: derrotar a El Desperado y derrotar a Hiromu Takahashi. ¿Qué piensas después de finalmente derrotarlos?
DOUKI: Vencerlos a los dos demostró que estoy al mismo nivel que ellos. Es por eso que obtener esas victorias fue tan importante. Especialmente contra Hiromu (Takahashi). Es alguien a quien he querido vencer tanto desde que estaba en México, así que la primera vez que obtuve la victoria sobre él fue uno de los días más felices de mi vida.
Pep: Esta semana tuviste tu primera defensa exitosa como Campeón contra Taiji Ishimori. Fue un combate de altísimo nivel y sin temor a equivocarme la mejor defensa del Campeonato en lo que va de 2024. ¿Qué impresiones te dejó este combate? ¿Cuáles son tus impresiones de Ishimori como competidor?
DOUKI: (TaijI) Ishimori es un veterano, pero tiene una velocidad, potencia y acondicionamiento increíbles. Realmente es increíble. Fue un combate difícil, pero al final pude ganar y ganar a mi manera, y ese es un resultado realmente valioso para tener en mi haber.
Pep: Desafortunadamente, la alegría no duró mucho y fuiste atacado por Yoshinobu Kanemaru, tu ex compañero de equipo en Suzuki Gun. Kanemaru se autodenominó el próximo retador al Campeonato. ¿Qué expectativas tienes para este combate? ¿Cuáles son tus impresiones de Kanemaru como competidor?
DOUKI: No sé cómo lo ven los fanáticos, pero realmente creo que (Yoshinobu) Kanemaru es uno de los mejores luchadores completos del planeta. El hecho de que sea un ex compañero mío no es realmente relevante, solo vencer a alguien así me hará subir de nivel como luchador.
Pep: Ninja Mack me contó la historia de la primera vez que se conocieron en el ring y cómo te rompió la cabeza durante el combate, dejándote una cicatriz en la frente. Este año tuviste tu primer combate individual durante Best of the Super Junior 31. ¿Qué impresiones te dejó este combate? ¿Cuáles son tus impresiones de Ninja como competidor?
DOUKI: ¡Ninja Mack ha sido amigo mío desde antes de que alguien lo conociera como Ninja Mack! Tienes razón, fue un cabezazo lo que provocó la lesión. Reencontrarme con él fue más como si estuviéramos luchando por primera vez, había pasado mucho tiempo entre medio. Fue como ponernos al día.
Pep: Pasaste unos días de vacaciones en México, un lugar que sabemos que es muy especial para ti y donde comenzaste tu carrera como luchador. ¿Cómo pasaste esos días en México? ¿Hay alguna intención de volver a competir allí antes de que termine el 2024?
DOUKI: México es muy importante para mí, lo considero como mi lugar de nacimiento. Intento viajar allí siempre que tengo tiempo.
Pep: Durante Fantasticamania USA 2024 hiciste equipo con Mistico y derrotaste a Volador Jr. y Rocky Romero. Después del encuentro, Mistico expresó su deseo de tener un combate individual contigo y poner en juego ambos campeonatos, el tuyo y el suyo. Sabemos que tú también quieres tener ese encuentro. ¿Cuáles son tus impresiones de Mistico como competidor? ¿Crees que necesitas vencer a Mistico para ser indiscutiblemente el mejor Junior del mundo?
DOUKI: No llamaría a Mistico un ídolo mío per se, pero no se puede subestimar lo famoso e importante que es para todos en Centroamérica. Me encantaría obtener una victoria sobre él como rudo (heel).
Pep: NJPW volverá a realizar un espectáculo en el extranjero: Royal Quest IV en Londres, Inglaterra. Tuviste la oportunidad de competir algunas veces en el Reino Unido. ¿Qué puedes contarnos sobre tu experiencia allí?
DOUKI: No estoy muy familiarizado con la escena del Reino Unido, pero he luchado con Robbie X y Michael Oku antes y me encantaría luchar de nuevo con ellos. También hay un chico de Nueva Zelanda que vive en el Reino Unido, Niwa. Entrené con él en México y sería genial luchar contra él.
Pep: Si pudieras traer a cualquier luchador del mundo para competir contra ti, al que aún no te hayas enfrentado, ¿a quién elegirías? ¿Te gustaría que hubiera alguna estipulación especial?
DOUKI: Sé que Taiji Ishimori dijo que quiere luchar con Darby Allin… Me gustaría enfrentarme a Sammy Guevara.
Pep: Queremos saber un poco más sobre ti. ¿Podrías contarnos sobre tus pasatiempos? Y también, ¿cómo es un día normal en tu vida?
DOUKI: No mucho. Hago ejercicio y duermo. ¡Eso es todo!
Pep: ¿Tienes algún mensaje para los fans de Latinoamérica y España?
DOUKI: ¡Hola a todos mis amigos! Me llamo DOUKI. Yo viví en México casi 10 años. Por eso yo soy un luchador japonés hecho en México. México es mi país. Yo conozco el (México) DF más que Tokio jajaja.
Siempre quiero regresar a México. Pero no solo México. ¡Quiero conocer todos los países de Latinoamérica!
Solo he ido a México, Guatemala y El Salvador, pero falta mucho. Algún día quiero conocer todos los países y quiero luchar por todos lados.

Pep: In July you celebrated your 13th anniversary as a professional wrestler. Do you have any moments from your career that you would like to highlight as your favorites?
DOUKI: The happiest memories I have in wrestling so far are the friends I was blessed with in Mexico. The roughest memories are too many to count!
Pep: This year you were able to achieve two things that you had not been able to do before: defeat El Desperado and defeat Hiromu Takahashi. What are your thoughts after finally defeating them?
DOUKI: Beating the two of them showed that I’m on the same level as the two of them. That’s why getting those wins was so important. Especially against Hiromu (Takahashi). He’s someone I’ve wanted to beat so badly from when I was in Mexico, so the first time I got the win over him was one of the happiest days of my life.
Pep: This week you had your first successful defense as Champion against Taiji Ishimori. It was a very high-level match and without fear of being wrong the best defense of the Championship so far in 2024. What impressions did this match leave you with? What are your impressions of Ishimori as a competitor?
DOUKI: (TaijI) Ishimori is a veteran, but he has incredible speed, power and conditioning to go with it. He really is incredible. It was a tough match but in the end I was able to win and win my way, and that’s a really valuable result to have under my belt.
Pep: Unfortunately, the joy didn’t last long and you were attacked by Yoshinobu Kanemaru, your former teammate at Suzuki Gun. Kanemaru called himself the next challenger to the Championship. What expectations do you have for this match? What are your impressions of Kanemaru as a competitor?
DOUKI: I don’t know how the fans see him but I really believe that (Yoshinobu) Kanemaru is one of the very best all round wrestlers on the planet. Him being a former teammate of mine isn’t really relevant, just beating someone like that will make me level up as a wrestler.
Pep: Ninja Mack told me the story of the first time you met in the ring and how he broke your head during the match, leaving a scar on your forehead. This year you had your first singles match during Best of the Super Junior 31. What impressions did this match leave you with? What are your impressions of Ninja as a competitor?
DOUKI: Ninja Mack has been a friend of mine since before anyone knew him as Ninja Mack! You’re right, it was a headbutt that caused the injury. Meeting up with him again, it was more like we were wrestling for the first time, so much time had passed in between. It was like catching up.
Pep: You spent a few days on vacation in Mexico, a place that we know is very special to you and where you started your career as a wrestler. How did you spend those days in Mexico? Is there any intention to compete there again before the end of 2024?
DOUKI: Mexico is really important to me, I really consider it as my birthplace. I try to get myself there whenever I have the time.
Pep: During Fantasticamania USA 2024 you teamed up with Mistico and defeated Volador Jr. and Rocky Romero. After the match, Mistico expressed his desire to have a singles match with you and put both Championships on the line, yours and his. We know that you want to have that match as well. What are your impressions of Mistico as a competitor? Do you think you need to beat Mistico to be undisputedly the best Junior in the world?
DOUKI: I wouldn’t call Mistico an idol of mine per se, but you can’t understate just how famous and significant he is to everyone in Central America. I’d love to get a win over him as a rudo (heel).
Pep: NJPW will once again be holding a show abroad: Royal Quest IV in London, England. You had the chance to compete a few times in the UK. What can you tell about your experience over there?
DOUKI: I’m not super familiar with the UK scene, but I have wrestled Robbie X and Michael Oku before and I’d love to wrestle them again. There’s also a guy from New Zealand who’s based in the UK, Niwa. I trained with him in Mexico, and it’d be cool to wrestle him.
Pep: If you could bring any wrestler in the world to compete against you, that you haven’t faced yet, who would you choose? Would you like it to have any special stipulations?
DOUKI: I know Taiji Ishimori said he wants to wrestle Darby Allin… I’d like to face Sammy Guevara.
Pep: We want to know a little bit more about you. Could you tell us about your hobbies? And also, what is a normal day in your life like?
DOUKI: Not much. I work out and I sleep. That’s it!
Pep: Do you have any message for fans in Latin America and Spain?
DOUKI: Hello to all my friends! My name is DOUKI. I lived in Mexico for almost 10 years. That’s why I’m a Japanese wrestler made in Mexico. Mexico is my country. I know Mexico City better than Tokyo hahaha.
I always want to go back to Mexico. But not only Mexico. I want to visit all the countries in Latin America!
I’ve only been to Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador, but there’s still a long way to go. Someday I want to visit all the countries and I want to wrestle everywhere.
